Dr. Orris is a licensed clinical psychologist and in addition to her private practice, she is the Clinical Director at CBT California where she oversees clinical staff, supervises trainees, and provides consultation and training to CBTC staff and other professionals. She trains and supervises students from Pepperdine and Alliant as well as postdoctoral fellows from Harbor UCLA. She also provides training in adolescent and adult DBT to community agencies. Dr. Orris developed and implemented the adolescent DBT program at CBTC and facilitates the parent skills training program. Dr. Orris is a volunteer clinical faculty member at University of California and speaks regularly at professional conferences, including the International Society for the Improvement and Teaching of DBT. (ISITDBT) She is certified in DBT by the Linehan Board of Certification and is a Diplomate with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
Dr. Orris is trained in a number of evidence based treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Dr. Orris has over 15 years of clinical experience and is skilled in treating a wide range of presenting problems. Her clinical specializations include emotion dysregulation, borderline personality disorder, parenting, trauma, and eating disorders.
Dr. Orris received her Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Boston college in 2001, where she was trained in trauma specific interventions by Linda Sanford, MSW. She spent the next several years working in residential treatment for adolescents and adults with self-harming and suicidal behavior, eating disorders, and severe posttraumatic stress. Dr. Orris earned her PsyD from Azusa Pacific University in 2010, where she conducted research on sex trafficking in India and authored a manual for lay counselors working with rescued victims. Dr. Orris completed psychological externships in Neuropsychology at UCI (pediatric) and UCLA (adult). Dr. Orris completed an APA-accredited internship and two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Casa Pacifica, a residential treatment center for adolescents. During that time, Dr. Orris developed and implemented the Dialectical Behavior Therapy program and trained clinical and program staff in this modality.
